The last meeting of the II-nd East-European Regional Electoral Group under the Ukrainian Presidency was held on the 17th of December 2013.
The mandate of the Presidency of Ukraine coincided with a complicated and responsible period of UNESCO reforms. It comprised two sessions of the Executive Board – the 192nd (September 2013) and 193rd (22nd November 2013) as well as the 37th session of UNESCO General Conference (5-20 November 2013) that is held in UNESCO Headquarters once in two years.
The participants of the meeting unanimously approved the activities of the Ukrainian Presidency as the coordinator of Group II, representing 24 countries of Central and Eastern Europe, especially during the period of elections to UNESCO governing and intergovernmental bodies and election of the Director General of the Organization, as the result of which Irina Bokova was re-elected for a new four-year term.
The Presidency of the Group for the next 6-moths term, starting from 1 January 2014 was passed on to Lithuania.
