In the framework of the Day of Slavic Cultures and Writing a cultural event with the participation of 12 UNESCO Slavic Member States was held on the 10^th of May 2012 at the UNESCO headquarters. This event was organized by an International Non-governmental Organization “Forum of Slavic Cultures” and permanent delegations to UNESCO of respective states.

The inauguration of the exposition of children’s paintings entitled: “The Portrait of My Heritage” was composed of the works of young artists from Ukraine, Poland, Russia Croatia, Slovenia, Belarus, Bulgaria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia, Slovakia, Montenegro and Serbia.

Ukrainian part of the exhibition was presented by the best works of students of several children’s art schools from Kyiv, as well as of the Ukrainian School of Arts at the Cultural and Information Centre of the Embassy of Ukraine to France (Paris).

During the ceremony several children’s and youth ensembles performed traditional songs and dances, including the Ukrainian girls’ choir “Rodzynka” who interpreted several popular Ukrainian carols.

Also, a Ukrainian “interactive workshop” was organized during the event, where guests were acquainted with popular forms of art, in particular with the craft of embroidery.

The Day of Slavic Cultures and Writing was followed by a reception, representing the traditional cuisine of Slavic countries.

The event was held in the framework of the International Year of Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development.
