Today, on October 9, the 207th session of the UNESCO Executive Board has begun and will last until October 23, 2019.
In accordance with item 5.I.C of the Provisional Agenda of the Executive Board Director-General of UNESCO Audrey Azoulay will represent a report on the state of implementation of previous decisions of the Executive Board “Monitoring of the situation in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea (Ukraine)” in the areas of competence of the Organization (including information transmitted by the Ukrainian side and UNESCO institutional partners). As a result of the consideration of the report it is planned to adopt the 11th decision of the Executive Board that entrusts to the Director-General further reporting on the situation in the occupied peninsula and the results of the implementation of a comprehensive monitoring mechanism during the 210th session of the UNESCO Executive Board.
The Executive Board is one of the three constitutional bodies of UNESCO, the others are the General Conference and the Secretariat. It consists of 58 Member States with a four-year term of office. Ukraine has submitted its candidature for the elections to the Executive Board for the period 2021 - 2025. The elections will take place during the 41st session of the General Conference which will be held in November 2021.
