The Global Education for All Meeting was held in UNESCO headquarters (Paris) from 21 to 23 November 2012.
The Ukrainian delegation, participating at the Meeting was headed by Mr.Yevgen Sulima, First deputy Minister of Education, Science, Youth and Sports.
During its sessions the participants performed a deep analysis of the state of implementation of the goals and tasks of the UNESCO Programme “Education for All”, set by the previous World Summit in Education (Dakar, 2000), made recommendations with regard to post 2015 global educational agenda in the light of the further “Sustainable education development” theme in UN system framework.
The Ukrainian delegation actively participated in the elaboration of the outcome document of the Paris Meeting, formulating a proposal of the Final Statement concerning the necessity to encourage the development of individuals in terms of cultural and social values, as well as the role of educational systems in prevention of dissemination of political, interethnic and interdenominational radicalism in societies.
The Meeting became a unique and effective platform for intensification of international cooperation in education, as well as for elaboration of innovative mechanisms for implementation of the UN initiative “Education First”. Its opening ceremony was marked by inauguration of Mr. Placido Domingo, opera singer of world-wide renommee, as UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador.
A separate meeting of the Head of Ukrainian delegation Mr.Y.Sulima with the UNESCO Director General Irina Bokova was held in the framework of the Global Eduacation for All Meeting on the 23 of November 2012. The main topic of the discussion was the Ukrainian initiative to host in 2013 a regional UNESCO conference on current issues in education.
Irina Bokova also expressed high appreciation with recent achievements of Ukraine in the area of education that could serve as good example for many other countries.
